I’m a sucker for the whole enemies fixing up an old house plotline, so Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score was right up my alley.
Maggie Nichols heads to a small town in Idaho to restore an old Victorian mansion, and she has a time limit. Silas Wright is the landscaper hired to work on the yard, but he’s definitely more of a laid-back figure who immediately likes Maggie and wants to get her to slow down (and ideally, stay put, with him).
There’s lots of flirty back-and-forth banter and plenty of chemistry between the main characters. It’s not exactly a slow burn, but we do get to see their relationship build through small, everyday interactions that feel really authentic.
My favorite thing about this book is that Silas falls in love with Maggie first. He’s sweet, sexy, and just a little bit possessive, but he’s also hopeful that she’ll return his feelings. He never just expects her to catch up – he waits.
As usual, Lucy Score weaves a wonderful story filled with colorful side characters. She manages to show how the main characters learn and grow outside of just each other. I loved Silas’s family (they all jump off the page) but my absolute favorite “character” was his dog, Kevin. I mean, is it really a romantic comedy without the funky dog?
Maggie Moves On has plenty of steam, with multiple descriptive scenes in really *unique* locations. Silas is definitely a dirty talker! While I found some of the steam to be a bit unrealistic based on my knowledge of female anatomy (it usually doesn’t happen in 60 seconds without the guy even trying?), the word-play and descriptions are sizzling, so I could overlook that.
Generally, this is a really sweet story that shows two people coming together in a wholesome way!
This title will be available for purchase on June 21st, 2022. Stay tuned for updates!
