REVIEW: The Roommate Risk by Talia Hibbert

If you’re looking for a friends-to-lovers that’s a little sad but gritty and STEAMY (wow the steam) then The Roommate Risk by Talia Hibbert will be just the thing.

The Plot:

Rahul has loved Jasmine forever, but she has serious abandonment issues and will not speak about them. It sounds like the man in a lot of romances.
Jasmine is sexually aggressive, unapologetic, unapologetic, determined, secretly kind of sad and vulnerable, and a total disaster, but she’s also a fierce fighter for those she loves. This girl is LOYAL.
It takes her a while to believe Rahul truly cares for her, and she still messes up, but this isn’t an artificial conflict; it’s just her. Rahul is serious, focused, and a bit too in love since he keeps hurting himself in the process of caring for Jasmine. Like, for YEARS.

The Good Stuff:

One thing I really enjoyed is that we get to see the characters grow and change. As I was reading, I KNEW they had it in them and was really, really routing for them.
These characters are real people. They’re snarky, they make mistakes, they have jobs they kind of don’t want to show up to, and they’re doing their best in this messy thing we call life.

This technically has it all. Opposites attract. Friends to lovers. Tons of smut. An underrated dom who actually cares about the other MC.

But for some reason, I didn’t totally connect with Jasmine. I LOVED how she was messy, unapologetic, always late, and just really bold – she does what she wants. But I felt like her issues were almost to…vast to overcome in the small space of this romance book? I think I really needed some more time (or almost a women’s fic installment in the middle) to see her overcome those issues on her own and not feel so terrible about herself. By the end, she’s almost hating herself and wanting to do better for Rahul. I get the wanting to do better, but I didn’t see that self-hate going away anytime soon.

Overall, it’s a 4/5 for me. The smut is INCREDIBLE (seriously, I was screaming) and both characters are truly amazing on their own. If you’re looking for something a little deeper than a comfort read and don’t mind feeling a little emotionally uncomfy then you’ll love this installment by the amazing Talia Hibbert.
